IS STILL TRUE!
Scripture Reading--John 17:17
"Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth" ( emphasis added ).
"What is truth?" is the question many are asking these days. Embracing relativism, they believe there's no such thing as absolute truth. "What's truth to you is truth, and what's truth to someone else is truth to him." Many also believe that no one has the right to impose his idea of truth on someone else. It's up to each person to decide for himself.
In Judges 17:6b, we read, "Every man did that which was right in his own eyes." No wonder there's so much confusion, even in the Church! As we study reasons we believe there's hope for the family, we find great comfort and strength in the fact that there's absolute truth, and it's found in God's Word. Times may change, but God's Word doesn't ( Ps. 119:89 ).
A famous trapper from the North Country shared his secrets with a young man who wanted to be a great trapper, too. The trapper told the young man that if he did exactly what he said, he could be as good as the trapper. At the end of the trapping season, the famous trapper met the young man again, eager to hear about his results. Much to his surprise, he discovered that the young man had done poorly. The trapper asked the young man if he'd followed his directions. "No, I found a better way," the young man replied. No wonder he failed!
We all want strong families, and God gives us all we need in His Word. The Bible is still the greatest book ever written. In its pages, God tells us how to live life; but we keep turning to our "better ways." Then we wonder why we struggle and fail. If we would get back to the Bible and do things God's way, we'd see God's blessing on our families. Yes, there's hope for the family because God's Word is still true.
APPLICATION: Read Ephesians 5:18-6:4. Discuss how God expects us to live if we want His blessing.
