Our Family Time with God

JANUARY 1, 2010
A NEW YEAR BRINGS OPPORTUNITY!
Scripture Reading--Matthew 9:29b
"According to your faith be it unto you."
A father showed up late for his son's baseball game. His son was playing third base. "How is it going?" he yelled to his boy. "Great!" his son responded. Then the dad noticed the scoreboard. The other team was winning 15 to zero. He yelled back to his son, "The score is 15 to nothing." "That's right." "Well, why did you say things are going great?" His son replied, "We haven't batted yet!"
What a fantastic attitude! That boy was looking forward to the opportunity of getting to step up to the plate!
William James said, "The greatest discovery of my generation is that a person can alter his life by altering his attitude of mind." That is what the Bible means when it says as a man "thinketh in his heart, so is he" ( Prov. 23:7 ). Your outlook has a tremendous bearing on your outcome. Negative expectations are usually fulfilled, but God rewards faith-based optimism.
A new year means new opportunities. Webster's New World Dictionary defines the word new as never existing before. In the coming days, you will encounter things you have never faced before; but God has already been where you are about to go.
The word new appears 131 times in the Bible. It speaks of new mercies, a new song, a new spirit, a new birth, a new commandment, and a new covenant. This New Year is a new beginning. New things are in store for you because "if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new" ( 2 Cor. 5:17 ).
You will have challenges and choices over the next 12 months, but you can face the future with confidence. It's your turn to step up to the plate!
PONDER, PRAY, PRAISE: Ponder and discuss the opportunities your family has in store over the next 12 months. Pray in faith and believe God for great things. Praise the Lord for opportunities to grow in grace.
