WHAT IS WORSHIP? - PART 3

Scripture Reading--Psalm 105:1-5

Psalm 105 lists important elements God is looking for in our worship.

          1.  Rejoicing in God ( v. 3 )
True worship is always characterized by great rejoicing.  Worshiping God should be a joyous
               experience.

          2.  Seeking God ( vv. 3-4 )
We looked at this aspect more closely in a previous devotional.

          3.  Remembering what God has done ( v. 5 )
Forgetfulness is spiritually dangerous.  Psalm 106:7, 13, 21 tell us that forgetfulness is the first step
toward spiritual poverty ( "leanness...[ of ] their soul," v. 15 ).  Faithfully remembering what God
has done draws our hearts into worship.

          4.  Giving God glory ( v. 3 )
For God's child, everything should be an opportunity to glorify God ( 1 Cor. 10:31 ).  It doesn't
matter where your are or what you're doing.  You can worship God by giving Him the glory.
Have you considered what God wants most in your worship?  You can give Him your time, your
tithes, your talents, and your treasures and still not give what pleases Him most.  The best
expression of true worship is when you give yourself.
One Sunday at the mission church, the pastor preached to the Indians about the importance of
giving oneself to God, based on Romans 12:1-2.  God spoke to the Indian chief's heart.  Going to
the altar, he said, "Chief give knife and bow to God," and sat down.  The pastor continued to
preach.  Again, the chief came forward.  This time, he said, "Chief give pony to God," and sat
down.  As the message ended, God showed the chief what He really wanted.  Returning to the
altar again, he said, "Chief give self  to God."  That day, the chief learned the meaning of worship
               that pleases God.
When God saved you, He gave you all of Himself.  The question is, does God have all of you?
